Former Vols: Tyler Bray Signs Extension With KC Chiefs

It looks like former Tennessee Vols quarterback Tyler Bray might have a future in Kansas City after all.

In a bit of a surprise on Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs signed quarterback Tyler Bray to a two year extension.

Bray, who went undrafted in 2013 after leaving Tennessee a year early, has yet to play in a regular season game for the Chiefs.

The former Vol quarterback is currently rehabbing his torn ACL, but the Chiefs clearly saw enough in training camp in 2013 and 2014 that they want to give him a chance in 2016.

It’s likely that Bray, assuming he can get healthy, will be Kansas City’s third quarterback in 2016, behind Alex Smith and Aaron Murray.

The Chiefs’ current third quarterback, Chase Daniel, is in the final year of his contract and it’s very unlikely that Kansas City would resign him.

Bray has the potential to be something in the NFL. He has a huge arm and he showed in college that he can do plenty of damage. His single season total of 3,619 passing yards in 2012 is the 11th best single season in SEC history. He also holds the record for most passing yards in a game at Tennessee (530 against Troy, which broke Peyton Manning’s record of 523 against Kentucky).

The contract extension that Bray signed with Kansas City is worth $1.925 million over two years.
