Here are the Tennessee football team’s top performers who earned Smokey Points as the Volunteers beat the Bowling Green Falcons Saturday in Nashville.
The first game of the year was a struggle for the Tennessee Vols, as they needed all four quarters to put the Bowling Green Falcons away for good.

Nonetheless, Tennessee won the game 59-30, and they are 1-0 on the season.
Also, this was the first win for the Vols as a Top 25 team since the end of the 2007 season, when they beat the Wisconsin Badgers in the Outback Bowl. And Saturday’s game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville had a lot of impressive performers.
Despite all of the negative things we can point to about the game Saturday, including the questionable secondary, lack of defensive line pressure at certain points, and inconsistent kicking game, there are a lot of things to be excited about as well.
And plenty of individuals showed up and performed extremely well.
As we go through the season, we will award our version of helmet stickers, what we call Smokey Points, to the top five performers in each game. We will rank them from No. 5 to No. 1 as well, and No. 1 will obviously be our MVP of the game.
Despite some of the struggles, narrowing the top performers down to just five on Tuesday was very difficult. Plenty of players showed up and made an impact, and many of them deserved attention for their performance.
This week, the five game-changers included mostly skill players with one exception. Many of these guys were players you would expect to be stars in any game this year, and they showed up when necessary on Saturday.
So here are our Smokey points for the Tennessee Vols top five performers against the Bowling Green Falcons in their season opener Saturday afternoon.
