With NFL Week 1 in the books for the 2015 season, here are former players from the Tennessee Volunteers football team who stood out over the weekend.

It was not the best week for former Vols in the NFL as the season kicked off this past weekend, but plenty of players still came through.

For a bit of perspective, some of the best former Vols could not get the chance to star. Arian Foster is obviously injured, and Eric Berry did not get as many reps as he would have liked given the fact that he was still just getting back on the field.

Also, coming off of an injury, Jerod Mayo did not play as great as he often does, and he will need time to get back into rhythm.

But the killer over the weekend is obviously Peyton Manning, who did not have a good game against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday but still helped his team squeak out a victory.

There were six former Vols who stood out during NFL Week 1 games. And they remained in the trenches or on special teams.

This is something you could expect from Tennessee football. Even more impressive, they all came from the Phil Fulmer era with one exception, which we will get to.

But what is clear based on this week’s top performers from the Vols is that the Punter-U title really does apply to the Vols football program. And outside of Manning and the other three guys who were injured or coming off of an injury, the usual suspects obviously came through.

They will be obvious once they are named. But look for a few better performances from some individuals in the future.
