Tennessee vs. Arkansas Last-Minute Predictions

The Tennessee vs. Arkansas matchup features two desperate football teams. Here are the last-minute predictions for the Volunteers and Razorbacks game.

With two football programs possibly down to their last lifeline, the Vols and Hogs are going to be doing everything they can to win this game.

And it is two completely opposing styles.

Tennessee’s offense under Butch Jones is an offense based on tempo and running lots of plays, while Bret Bielema runs an offense centered around clock-management.

Both teams will want to force the other team to play their game, but Butch Jones seemed very aware earlier this week that his team will have fewer possessions than they usually have in games.

Whether or not he can adjust will likely determine the outcome of this game.

With that said, here are the five last minute predictions for the Tennessee vs. Arkansas game.

1. Joshua Dobbs’s Passing Numbers Will Improve

This is more of a gut feeling than it is a pick with the heart or the head. It just seems like Dobbs has to improve his numbers at some point, and this will be the game to do it.

Arkansas will be selling out to stop Jalen Hurd, who has been the bread and butter for Tennessee, and Butch Jones and Mike DeBord will finally use their elite receivers to make plays. But that brings us to our next point.

2. Jalen Hurd Will Have His Worst Rushing Game of the Year

Yes, that is not a typo. This will happen for a few reasons.

For starters, Arkansas running Bret Bielema’s style of offense will reduce the number of possessions for the Vols because they will run as much clock as possible. It will also keep the defensive line well-rested.

Meanwhile, the Razorbacks will sell out on defense to stop the running game and beg Joshua Dobbs to beat them in the passing game, and Butch Jones and Mike DeBord will respond accordingly. That will limit Jalen Hurd’s ability.

3. Arkansas Will Have Fewer than 100 Yards Passing

This is a tricky prediction given how bad the Tennessee secondary was on fourth down last week against the Florida Gators, but a lot of that appears to have been on John Jancek changing his strategy.

Tennessee goes up against a much weaker passing offense this week, and the Vols should be able to give Arkansas trouble all game throwing the football. The running game, however, is up for debate.
