Tennessee Vols Quarterback Joshua Dobbs Named National Offensive Player of the Week

Tennessee Volunteers Quarterback Joshua Dobbs was named national Walter Camp offensive player of the week after leading his team to victory over Georgia.

A week ago, Tennessee fans were divided over whether or not he should keep his starting job at quarterback.

That was validated 25 minutes into Saturday’s game against the Georgia Bulldogs, and the screams were as loud as they could be.

But less than 24 hours later, Joshua Dobbs was standing as the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week after his incredible performance as the Vols won 38-31 after being down 24-3, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Dobbs was 25 of 42 for 312 yards and had another 118 yards on 18 carries for three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.

He also took a major leadership role on the sidelines as he helped rally his team and get his receivers to finally live up to their expectations.

This was more impressive than his comeback against the South Carolina Gamecocks last year because it was against a very good defense and with a lot more pressure.

And his play might have saved the season for this football team.

According to the report on GoVols, Dobbs is the fourth Tennessee player to win this award but the first since Erik Ainge on Oct. 8, 2006, which was ironically in another victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Ainge was 25 of 38 for 268 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in that game.

Dobbs’s numbers were a heck of a lot better on Saturday.
