After leading the Tennessee Volunteers football team to a 38-31 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs, Quarterback Joshua Dobbs is back in the spotlight.

Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, and the Walter Camp FBS National Player of the Week for his performance against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night.

This was a much needed win for the Vols, as they came back from a twenty-one point deficit to defeat Georgia 38-31.

With a ton of luck, and Dobbs playing his best game of the season, and possibly his career, Dobbs was able to put the spotlight back on himself in a positive manner.

Coming into the game on Saturday, there were people questioning whether Dobbs was the right guy. This was not the majority of the fan base, but a large portion nonetheless because Dobbs has been inconsistent through the first five games of the season.

Against Oklahoma, the quarterback went 13 for 31 through the air, and only had 12 rushing yards. Then Dobbs busted out to a 136-yard game against the Florida Gators, but only had 83-yards in the “throw game.” Matching up against the Razorbacks of Arkansas, Dobbs connected on 20 of 36 passes for a modest 232-yards, and only had seven yards rushing.

Whether it be play calling, or just straight up inconsistency, Dobbs has not had the year that many thought he would have. There have been questions about his ability to throw the ball down the field because the Vols were simply not doing it in any of the previous games. The question became, “If he can’t throw the ball down the field, then why don’t we just put in Quienten Dormady?”

After the quick start Georgia had in the game this past Saturday, a few fans were ready to pull the plug, and throw in the freshman quarterback.

Then the narrative began to change. The Vols were down 24-3, and Dobbs and the Volunteers started the comeback with two big fourth down conversions. The second of those, a fourth and eight pass to wide receiver Josh Smith, got the Vols into striking distance at 24-10.

With a forced fumble by Jakob Johnson, it allowed Dobbs to find Kamara for a two-yard touchdown pass to go into the half at 24-17. You all know the rest of the story as Dobbs finished the game with 312 passing yards, and 118 rushing yards, and five total touchdowns.

Needless to say, Dobbs has quickly earned back trust by many. He is getting recognized nationally for his performance, and has possibly catapulted the Vols back into the right direction.

The win over Georgia does not ensure that Dobbs will continue to rack up these kinds of yards, or even that the Vols are going to play like everyone thought they were capable of, but it is a step in the right direction.

Dobbs is not going to get back in the Heisman race this year that many thought he would be in, but Vol fans were happy to see him have a Heisman type performance, and get Tennessee back in the headlines for something not depressing.
