This weekend, all Tennessee Vols fans should pull for the Texas A&M Aggies to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide, and it’s not just due to the rivalry.
This seems like an obvious statement if you know Tennessee fans. They hate the Alabama Crimson Tide with every bone in their body.
But there is more to that this season, as Tennessee Vols fans should be screaming at the top of their lungs for the Texas A&M Aggies to beat the Tide this week under the leadership of Kevin Sumlin, Kyle Allen, and their former defensive coordinator, John Chavis.
Why?
Well, Tennessee is getting Alabama at the perfect time next week.
It is a trap game for the Tide.
Alabama will have just come off of a huge game to the Aggies, and they will have the LSU Tigers looming the next week. So no matter what, they will be overlooking Tennessee.
But if they lose to Texas A&M, they will have no care in the world about this game.
Think about it. The Tide will then have two SEC West losses. Their quest to win the division will pretty much be completely eliminated unless a miracle happens.

Meanwhile, their hopes to reach the College Football Playoff will likely be over as well, and for the first time since 2010, they will be playing regular season games with no hope of a national title.
But the crazy part is what comes after that.
While their championship quests to win anything are likely over, the one off-chance to keep their mathematical hopes alive and get them back in the race will be to beat the LSU Tigers. If they do that, and then LSU beats Ole Miss and Texas A&M, one more loss somewhere would propel the Tide back in contention.
So they will be only thinking about the Tigers next Saturday to salvage the season.
How are they supposed to get up for Tennessee in this scenario? Sure, it’s technically a rivalry, but Alabama has won eight straight, the Vols are unranked, and they will still be reeling from the sickening loss to Texas A&M if the Aggies beat them.
Tennessee still has a chance if Alabama wins, but an Alabama loss will be the best thing for them. More than just the rivalry, Vols fans have a huge reason to pull for Texas A&M in this game.
So on behalf of everybody in Vol Nation this week, Let’s Go Aggies!
