In naming the Top 10 fight songs in college football, USA Today threw a shout-out to the Tennessee Vols, naming “Rocky Top” as the top one in the country.

It’s not even Tennessee’s official fight song.

But who cares?

“Rocky Top” was still named the No. 1 fight song by USA Today in an article listing the Top 10 college football fight songs in the country that came out Tuesday.

Describing the tune as “catchy” and “beloved,” the writer accurately points out that the song is synonymous with the school.

The article then goes into the history of how “Rocky Top” replaced “Down the Field” as the song Tennessee Vols fans identify with, even though it is not the official fight song.

Still, it is consistently the most hated song.

Opposing fans to this day hate seeing Tennessee be successful because if they are losing to Tennessee, they are constantly reminded of it by how much the band plays its own rendition of this song that first came from Felice and Boudleaux Bryant and was first recorded by the Osborne Brothers.

The song is a reminder to all fans why of why they love the Vols, and it only gets better when you consider the likes of Peyton Manning, Casey Clausen, and Joshua Dobbs directing the band to it after big wins.
