Joshua Dobbs Sets Rushing Record for Tennessee Vols Quarterbacks With Amazing Run
Joshua Dobbs set the record for the most rushing yards by a Tennessee Vols quarterback with an amazing first-down run against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
As he has done all year, Joshua Dobbs made an amazing play in a critical situation.
And the junior quarterback moved into the Tennessee record books for the most rushing yards in a single season by a Tennessee quarterback on the same play.
On 3rd and long and needing a play, Dobbs reeled off this amazing run.
Breaking two sure tackles in the backfield and then diving for the first down to just barely get it was amazing. But it shows the heart he has shown all year.
Dobbs broke Jimmy Streater’s record for 593 rushing yards by a Tennessee quarterback set in 1978.
He also did it on fewer carries and even went over 600 yards on that drive.
Unfortunately, Tennessee did not score on that offensive possession, as they were stopped on a 4th and short on the one-yard line. But they then came away with a safety on the next drive as Derek Barnett sacked Kyle Shurmur in the end zone.
So no harm really done.
That safety gave the Vols a 29-14 lead and the ball back.

Amidst all of that, it was nice to see Dobbs go down in history in the lore of Tennessee quarterbacks.
He finishes the year with more than 2,100 passing yards and more than 600 rushing yards, and for the game against Vanderbilt he led the team in rushing and passing, something he has made a habit of doing in a few games this year.
If the quarterback continues to improve, he could be in for a huge senior season. Numbers wise, he already is a memorable Vols quarterback.
