Vanderbilt QB Shows Why the Commodores Offense is Awful by Missing this Easy TD Pass vs. Tennessee

Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Kyle Shurmur showed why his team is awful by missing a blatantly easy touchdown pass against the Tennessee Vols.

This is the equivalent of Trent Richardson missing that blatantly easy hole against the Oakland Raiders in the NFL.

With the Vanderbilt Commodores finally finding a rhythm on offense for the first time all year in their last game against the Tennessee Vols, they were down 27-14 late in the second quarter and driving into Tennessee territory.

Inside the 10-yard line, a touchdown would have cut it to 27-21 and given them a ton of momentum going into the half.

But Good Ole’ Vandy football happened.

Kyle Shurmur missed a wide open touchdown pass that even a Pee-Wee League quarterback should have been able to see.

In a game in which the passing game picked up a rhythm for the first time all year under Shurmur, you could always count on him to show how reliable Vanderbilt is when you bet on them to screw up.

Right after this play, Shurmur threw a pick. No points for the ‘Dores.

Despite the great play of their defense, the pathetic play on offense all year has held this team back, and this was just another play to prove that.

The question is who does it fall on?

Do we blame Derek Mason’s staff for doing a terrible job developing the offense? Is he the Rex Ryan of college football by ignoring offense altogether? Or was this just a bad play by a young quarterback who is going to get better?

Whatever the reason, it does not matter. In this game, that play was huge for the Vols, as they went into halftime with a 13-point lead that should have been a six-point lead, and they were slated to get the ball to start the second half as well.
