Former Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Malik Foreman was not drafted. But the Houston Texans are giving him his first shot at a pro football career.

Malik Foreman spent his career playing at the nickel position for the Vols, and that was apparently not enough for any team to take a chance on him in the 2017 NFL Draft. However, the Houston Texans picked him up pretty quickly afterward.

Foreman will be one of 14 players attending the Texans minicamp in mid-May, according to a report by John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

More from Vols Football

Foreman wowed lots of people with his 4.37 40-time during Tennessee’s Pro Day, and he has all the measurables to be a solid player in the NFL.

Also, Foreman established himself as a good playmaker in college, particularly his senior year with an interception, a fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, four passes broken up, and two and a half tackles for a loss.

However, Foreman also made some infamous mistakes that could have held him back.

The first was the 4th and long touchdown that he gave up to Antonio Callaway against the Florida Gators in 2015 by taking a terrible angle. Tennessee lost that game 28-27 as a result.

Then there was the Hail Mary that he gave up to Jacob Eason this past year against the Georgia Bulldogs by misplaying the ball. Vols fans forgot about that one because Joshua Dobbs and Jauan Jennings saved Foreman by converting a Hail Mary of their own.

But it still was not likely a good look for the NFL Draft. On top of that, Foreman was part of a secondary that struggled mightily for the Vols down the stretch.

At the same time, he made plays and does have some raw talent. So it’s not crazy that a team like the Houston Texans would take a chance on him.
