Ben Roethlisberger welcomed former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Joshua Dobbs in a tweet after Pittsburgh took him in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Well, it looks like Ben Roethlisberger won’t take the same approach to Josh Dobbs that Brett Favre took to Aaron Rodgers. Roethlisberger was more than willing to welcome the former Vols star to the Steelers after the NFL Draft.
The 13-year veteran with the franchise tweeted out a welcome to one of his new backup quarterbacks after he was drafted on Saturday.
Big congrats to @josh_dobbs1! Welcome to the family. Excited to help you learn and pass along any knowledge I can. - Ben. #Steelers

Dobbs then responded with his own tweet.
Thank you @_BigBen7. Happy to join the @steelers family and can't wait to learn everything I can from a future Hall of Famer! https://t.co/wAZWs2iy5V

As we’ve mentioned before, Dobbs goes to a great situation with Pittsburgh considering that Roethlisberger is likely nearing retirement.
That he’s embracing Dobbs like this can only help the former Tennessee football quarterback. Again, it’s a much better response than the one Favre had after the Green Bay Packers selected Rodgers in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft.
The only caveat to all of this is that Dobbs considered Roethlisberger a future Hall of Famer. He probably is, but I’ve always disputed that.
A quarterback who never won a regular season or Super Bowl MVP going to the Hall of Fame just looks bad in many ways.
But his veteran leadership and talent are still to be respected, and he’s clearly got a resume and a mind that could help Dobbs. So perhaps we’re being a bit unfair here.
Either way, Dobbs is in a great situation by going to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Big Ben’s mentality only further proves that.
