The 2018 Tennessee football recruiting class moved into the top 5 after the Volunteers picked up three huge weekend commitments.

It started on Saturday when Georgia running back Lyn-J Dixon committed to Tennessee football. The next day, they picked up another Georgia running back in Anthony Grant. And late Sunday night, the Vols secured a commitment from Georgia defensive lineman Jamarcus Chatman, who flipped from LSU.

All three commitments are three-stars on Rivals, but Dixon is a four-star on 247Sports, and all three of them are four-stars on Scout.

And with 15 new commitments overall, Butch Jones’s 2018 class is in the top five across the board now.

More from Vols Football

Tennessee football’s class is No. 5 on all three services. They are second in the SEC across all three services as well to the LSU Tigers.

The other two teams ahead of the Vols consistently across the services are the Miami Hurricanes and Ohio State Buckeyes.

On 247Sports and Rivals, the Penn State Nittany Lions are also ahead of Tennessee. On Scout, though, Oregon is ahead of Tennessee.

Rivals and 247Sports both list the Vols as having one five-star and six four-stars, albeit different four-stars, and Scout lists the Vols as having eight four-stars.

The good news for Tennessee football is the Vols are significantly ahead of every other SEC team outside of LSU. The only team close is the Texas A&M Aggies, and they aren’t even in the Top 10 on two of the services.

As a result, this was a very strong weekend for Tennessee football recruiting, and Butch Jones still has plenty of room to add icing on the cake.

There is still plenty of elite in-state talent, and quite a few other blue-chips are interested in the program.

So they could move up even further in the recruiting rankings before it’s all over. And that could happen very soon.
