Vols senior DB/KR Evan Berry the only Tennessee football player on 247Sports Preseason All-SEC team
Volunteers senior returner and safety Evan Berry is the only Tennessee football player on the 247Sports 2017 Preseason All-Southeastern Conference team.
We only got more proof on Tuesday that there’s not a lot of love for Tennessee football heading into this season.
And a simple look at a 247Sports All-SEC team showed it.
Only one Vols player made the 247Sports Preseason All-SEC team for this year. And that player was Evan Berry.

Berry, a senior safety and kick returner, made the team as a kick returner. However, he is coming back from an injury. So while 247Sports didn’t show a lot of love for the Tennessee football team overall, the staff clearly has quite a bit of love for Evan Berry.
To be fair, only five teams had more than one Preseason All-SEC team. But they are the other five traditional powerhouses among the original Big Six in the conference. So Tennessee football was the only team of that group with no more than one.
The Alabama Crimson Tide led overwhelmingly with nine. The LSU Tigers came in second with four. After that, the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators tied with three.
And then the Auburn Tigers had two.
At the same time, the Texas A&M Aggies, the one school that’s not a charter member but is an outside affiliate of the Big Six, had Christian Kirk in there twice, as a wide receiver and a returner.
In addition to the Vols, the Kentucky Wildcats, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, Arkansas Razorbacks and South Carolina Gamecocks all had one player on the list.
The Vanderbilt Commodores stayed true to form with zero. However, the Vols clearly have a lot of unknown talent on their team.
And it keeps showing with preseason rankings and recognitions. But after what happened last year with a lot of hype, perhaps that’s just the way they want it.
