She helped Pat Summitt win her first two national championships and took the Tennessee Lady Vols to four straight Final Fours in the 1980s.

Now, Bridgette Gordon is returning to the school where her jersey number hangs in the rafters.

Holly Warlick announced that the 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist and former UT forward is joining the Lady Vols as an assistant coach.

According to UTSports, Gordon has spent the past seven seasons at Wichita State and the past three as the recruiting coordinator.

Her experience in that realm shows that Warlick is committing to getting the Tennessee Lady Vols back into the upper echelon of recruiting.

Gordon as a coach is not so bad either. She helped lead the Shockers to their first three ever NCAA Tournament appearances while on that staff.

So she brings a resume and an obvious passion to the university that she helped put on the map.

A women’s basketball Hall-of-Famer, we mentioned in a post last year that Gordon would be in the two-deep rotation of the Tennessee women’s basketball all-time roster.

At 6’0″, she was a very versatile player who could post up or play on the perimeter. Her coaching ability should be no surprise given her unique skills.

She often took charge to post up or score from the perimeter. However, many times she played point forward and directed the offense.

So she was able to do it all. And her experience as a coach makes her very qualified for this spot.

Warlick knows this is a make or break year for her coaching career. Bringing Gordon on was a great move to try to help improve the mentality of the team.

And as somebody who helped coach Gordon while at Tennessee, Warlick will definitely know how to work with her.
