Dave Doeren’s rejection to be Tennessee football’s next head coach is another example of fans saving the Volunteers from massive incompetence.

Shoutout to Vol Twitter once again! After stopping a potentially terrible coaching hire on Sunday with Greg Schiano, Tennessee football then went for Mike Gundy and appeared to go for Jeff Brohm.

While Gundy rejected them, more incompetence in the administration led to them missing out on Brohm. They took that incompetence and turned it towards Dave Doeren, the N.C. State Wolpack coach who is already on the hot seat.

But, after another barrage of angry tweets on chants at a basketball game, Doeren backed out of Tennessee football’s offer.

Rejection never felt so good!

John Currie and Beverly Davenport probably hate Vols fans right now. But in reality, they should be thankful.

More from Vols Football

Tennessee football fans continue to save them from looking pathetic and incompetent. Don’t get me wrong, they already look that way. Well, they already are.

But if they made one of those terrible hires and continued forcing Tennessee football into the cellar of the SEC for the next four years, they’d look even worse. Remember how bad Mike Hamilton looked during the Lane Kiffin departure and then the Derek Dooley hire? He looked 10 times worse three years later when Dooley was fired and Kevin Sumlin, the guy he rejected, was coach of the year in the SEC.

So yes, Vol Twitter knows more and is smarter than the administration.

Now, there’s a chance that Tennessee football fans can make that administration stumble into the right hire. And there are plenty of chances for that to happen. Other way better coaches than Doeren or Schiano would definitely take this job in Knoxville.

So to Vol Twitter, I say keep fighting. This coaching search isn’t over yet, and Currie could continue to make idiotic decisions. If you have to, get back on and scream at the next move. That includes going after any attempt to make Chad Morris or Kevin Steele head coach.

Grab the administration’s hand and drag it into the promised land. Force Jimmy Haslam III into having his name attached to one bit of success in his life that his daddy didn’t orchestrate.

While the national media continues to pan Rocky Top, never let it get to you. Tennessee football fans know what they’re doing far more than any national broadcaster or reporter does. And once again, they made the right decision on Thursday.
