We all thought Jeremy Pruitt was putting on a show when he acted as if he hadn’t heard anything about the lack of depth at cornerback for Tennessee football last month. But with spring practice here, it’s clear he knew what he was doing.
In addition to securing two secondary commitments from the Vols 2018 class on National Signing Day, he also converted Tyler Byrd and Carlin Fils-Aime over to cornerback. And over this past weekend, he was able to confirm more help coming.
Tennessee football secured a commitment from junior college transfer Kenneth George Jr. According to Patrick Brown of GoVols247, George received an offer from the Vols this past Thursday after meeting with them Wednesday.
He then committed Saturday night after taking an unofficial visit. Ryan Callahan of GoVols247 reported that commitment.
George, a redshirt freshman, will join Brandon Davis as the only newcomers who are true cornerbacks. Trevon Flowers and blueshirt signee Joseph Norwood are also defensive backs, but both are true safeties.
Still, despite the losses of Emmanuel Moseley, Rashaan Gaulden, Justin Martin and Shaq Wiggins, Pruitt has at least made sure he has enough bodies back. George makes for another addition at the cornerback position in the spring after.
That’s one player for every departure. Add in Baylen Buchanan, Shawn Shamburger, and Marquill Osborne, and all of a sudden Pruitt has talent to pick from.
In fact, the secondary is deep enough that Byrd could now move over to safety. Patrick Brown reported on 247Sports Saturday that Pruitt said it may be his best position, and he was practicing over there.
So this is what makes George’s commitment so huge. Tennessee football actually has flexibility now in the secondary to move guys around.
Coming out of Louisiana, George spent last year playing for Trinity Valley in Texas. He was unranked on Rivals and 247Sports, but he did have two interceptions last year and broke up eight passes. George also recorded 27 tackles.

How he turns out at Tennessee is still a question. He didn’t field too many offers. But the Nebraska Cornhuskers were another program that wanted him. And Pruitt is great at evaluating defensive backs specifically. So he likely has some talent to him. As a result, this could be a huge pickup for the Vols.
