Tennessee sports legend and former Voice of the Vols John Ward past away last week. The Tribute Ceremony will be held on Wednesday.

The greatest Voice of the Vols past away last week. John Ward was 88 years old when a lengthy battle with illness got the best of him.

Our society is filled with negativity, and unfortunately, it takes a death or adversity to bring out the best in people.

Well, the best will be on full display on Wednesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. Starting at 6:00 p.m. ET, there will be a Tribute to “The Voice” honoring John Ward hosted by the University of Tennessee Athletics Department and The Vol Network.

It will be a night filled with laughter and storytelling with several VFLs to share the precious memories of Ward.

Thanks to utsports.com we know that the event is intended for Ward’s family and Tennessee fans to honor him. Ward touched a lot of fans in the 30 years he was calling Tennessee games.

To be a part of the event, you will need to be present. It will not be on television or streamed.

I’m only 28 years old, but I recall many times where I would turn the radio on and mute the television just to hear Ward’s voice. He is arguably one of the best voice in the history of radio.

Tennessee fans around the world have so many special John Ward memories. He called the 1998 National Championship Game where the Vols beat Florida State 23-16.

One of the most famous lines we ever heard from Ward was after the 1998 National Championship Game. Once the Championship was one Ward spit out, “The national champion is clad in big orange.”

Another game from the same season was when the Vols took on the Florida Gators. As the field goal went through the uprights, Ward yelled out, “pandemonium reigns.”
