Former Vol: Robert Hubbs should ball out in Norway next season for Kongsberg Miners

Former Vol Robert Hubbs will continue his basketball career in Norway next season playing for the Kongsberg Miners. It should be a good opportunity for him to ‘ball out.’

There are many great things about fandom. And, one of those is seeing former players take their talents to the next level and succeed. The most recent former Vol to get their shot at the professional ranks is Robert Hubbs.

The former five-star recruit announced on Wednesday that he signed with the Kongsberg Miners of the BLNO league in Norway. While this is a highly competitive league, Hubbs should hold his own and make some noise.

Tennessee fans will remember Hubbs as a five-star kid with a lot of expectations. He was a top 20 prospect in the class of 2013. 247Sports had him rated as high as the fourth best shooting guard in the nation. And, the highest rated player from the state of Tennessee.

Looking back on that recruiting class and comparing Hubbs’ college career to others, it wasn’t as underwhelming as most fans recall. The fifth and sixth rated players were the Harrison twins that played at Kentucky, not that great. In fact, the top 20 has a lot of players that did less in college than Hubbs.

While at Tennessee, Hubbs was a leader for a Vols program that was struggling. In a time of inconsistency, Hubbs was the consistency. His junior and senior seasons saw double-digit scoring outputs with over 25 minutes per game. He finished his career with the Vols by joining the 1000-point club.

Last season Hubbs played for KK Sutjeska Niksic of the Montenegro-Erste Liga league in Europe. He played three games in the ABA Leagues where his 11.3 points per game was good enough for third-highest on the team.

Hubbs now has a chance to prove to the rest of the world he has NBA talent. Speaking of NBA talent, former NBA player Gerald Wallace played in the BLNO league for the Tromso Storm in the 2012-13 season and won the league MVP. Maybe, Hubbs can do the same.
