No matter what happens, this game is going to have a ton of big plays. West Virginia using Will Grier to throw it all over the weak Tennessee football secondary, the Vols’ defense using its athletes on the front seven to attack a turnover-prone WVU offense, and UT’s offensive playmakers on the outside against WVU’s weak defense means sparks will fly.

In this game, they will fly early. If West Virginia has the ball first, Tennessee will either force a turnover or give up a touchdown within the first minute. Book it. If the Vols have the ball first, they will score a touchdown within the first minute. Yes, I said that.

Tennessee has the better chance to strike early in a big way. That doesn’t mean it will play out that way the whole game. We made that clear as our entire staff picked the Mountaineers to win. But somebody is going to make a splash early, and that part favors Tennessee football.

The Vols have the players to be able to create fireworks, and they also have the weaknesses to allow it. West Virginia’s strengths are built to exploit their weaknesses. Jeremy Pruitt will want to slow things down as the game goes on, but that won’t happen early.
