The LSU Tigers may belong ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide in our SEC Power Rankings. After all, they have beaten two Top 25 teams. But a lot of that is based on projection and preseason analysis. When you look at what has actually happened on the field, Nick Saban’s team is clearly the best.

More from Vols Football

In fact, this may be the greatest college football team ever. You have Saban’s defensive coaching, all of his athletes that dominate on defense and in the trenches, and now a quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa to torch everybody else. It’s amazing what they’re doing, and they’re showing it.

Alabama has scored over 50 points in each of their first three games. They won the last two by at least 50 and the first game by 37. And what they did to the Ole Miss Rebels was insane. This team gave up a touchdown on the first play. Then they reeled off 49 straight before halftime.

The defense, even in garbage time, still didn’t let a high-powered Rebels offense led by Matt Luke to score in the second half. And the only reason the offense stalled at 62 points was due to what clearly looked like a mercy rule Saban personally employed.

Anyway, when you take out the rankings or projections, Alabama’s body of work is still the best of any SEC team, or any team in the country for that matter. All three of their wins are against FBS schools. Two are against Power Five schools. And all three of their opponents have won every game except for their game against the Tide.

Simply put, this team is dominant. They get another tough game to beef up their resume this week against the Texas A&M Aggies at home before a break to run up the score a few more times against the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

This is clearly the top team in our SEC Power Rankings. Nobody can dispute otherwise at this point, and the question is about to become whether or not another team can stay within three scores of the Tide. At this point, that seems like a real debate. And such a fact is scary for the rest of the country.
