Josh M writes…This transfer rule is going to get crazy, isn’t it? With that being said, do you think Kelly Bryant or Jalen Hurts could end up at Tennessee? If so, which player would you rather have?

I’m confident the NCAA didn’t intend the rule of a four-game redshirt to be taken of advantage of by players transferring like they are this year. However, I think it’s great for the players. If they are somewhere it’s not working, why not give them the ability to move on? Coaches do all the time.

As for the question about who I would rather have at Tennessee, Kelly Bryant from Clemson or Jalen Hurts from Alabama. Can I pick neither?

Look, I don’t want to be that guy that says, “it’s the offensive line’s fault,” even though I genuinely believe Tennessee’s offensive line is one of the worst in program history. However, I do understand Jarrett Guarantano isn’t getting drafted anytime soon.

I believe Guarantano is a decent quarterback and could be really good if he had time to throw the football. He is showing improvement this season with both his completion percentage and yards per attempt.

Here is my determining factor in deciding if I want either guy. Would the Vols have a different record with them under center? So far the answer is no. Would the Vols end up getting to a bowl game with Bryant or Hurts? Probably not.

Until that offensive line improves, no quarterback is going to look good. However, I’m excited about what JT Shrout can bring to the Tennessee program in the future.
