No.5 – Jonathan Kongbo

Before anyone gets mad, this post is not about bashing players. These players need to improve to give Tennessee a better chance of having a successful season.

More from All for Tennessee

All the hype surrounding Jonathan Kongbo has to stop. The No. 1 JUCO prospect from the 2016 class is far from his four-star status. He could turn it around in his last few games, but we won’t bank on it.

Maybe expectations were too high. Nonetheless, the production on the field has not been great. Blame it on Butch Jones and his incompetent coaching staff if you want. Honestly, that is what I pointed to at first as well. But, this season under Jeremy Pruitt has not been much better.

The 6-foot-5 254-pound senior has registered just three solo tackles on the season with six assists. He has zero tackles for loss and zero sacks.

Again, not bashing Kongbo but if he could get to the level of production of some of his teammates, the Vols pass rush could become trouble from opposing offenses.

Kyle Phillips and Darrell Taylor have nine solo tackles. Shy Tuttle has seven with one tackle for loss and one sack. Even Emmit Gooden has outplayed Kongbo on the season with six solo tackles, four being tackles for loss.
