So maybe the Florida Gators are better than we gave them credit for. After a rough loss in the second game of the season, Dan Mullen’s team has gotten on a roll and slowly climbed up our SEC Power Rankings. Again, there’s circular logic at play here, so we could only move this team up one spot for right now.

They can’t jump the team that beat them in The Swamp, and they can’t jump the team that beat that team. And, of course, there are the two teams at the top of these rankings. As a result, for now, we have Florida at No. 5.

But after dropping them towards the bottom following the second week, they have a lot to be proud of. Two straight quality wins against SEC West teams have allowed the Gators to be back in contention for the SEC East. Considering the fact that they have the South Carolina Gamecocks and Missouri Tigers at home, it’s a distinct possibility.

With a road game against the Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday, they have another chance to add to their total and continue their momentum. Then comes the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, and in that game, Florida and Georgia could be playing to decide the division. However, before getting to that point, they need another loss from the next team on this list.
