Who else could we put here? Ty Chandler, with a horrendous offensive line and a backup quarterback, was running as hard as he possibly could in this game. And he didn’t fumble this week, which allows him back on the list.
Tennessee football may have lost in a blowout, but this is the biggest silver lining. The Vols continue to slowly find their run game, and Chandler was a huge part of that. Well, he was also basically the entire offense when it came to scoring.
Chandler finished the day with 14 carries for 82 yards, and he scored both touchdowns for the Vols on the day. That’s an average of just under six yards a carry, which is a very good number considering what he was dealing with.
And much of his running came when the game mattered. Remember, the Vols were still in it when he scored both touchdowns. Tyson Helton probably didn’t incorporate him into the passing game as much as he may have wanted to on Saturday, but his rushing attack was flawless.
As a result, he is Tennessee football’s top performer in their blowout loss to the Missouri Tigers, for what it’s worth. To be fair to him, he probably would’ve made any list we had this year with his play, so he legitimately deserves credit for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
