No. 18 Mississippi State Bulldogs at Ole Miss Rebels

Thursday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. E.T.; Vaught-Hemingway Stadium; Oxford, Miss.

TV: ESPN; Line: Mississippi State -10.5; Over/Under: 61

The Rebels are on a four-game losing streak, but they can score some points. However, the points don’t come as easy when playing one of the top defenses in the nation. Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu only led the Rebel to score seven points against Alabama, and 16 against LSU and Auburn.

Mississippi State ranks 4th in total defense according to NCAA.org. The Bulldogs only give up 275.6 points per game and have only given up 12 touchdowns on the season. It doesn’t bother me that Ole Miss is at home, take Mississippi State.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs’ offense struggles against elite defenses. But it torches weak defenses. Ole Miss has a weak defense. So expect the Dawgs to thrive, and Nick Fitzgerald and Joe Moorhead will work to put up 50 points again.

Although the Rebels will be playing at home for a chance to go to a bowl game, I just can’t see them doing enough. Former Tennessee football defensive coordinator Bob Shoop will do what he needs to do for MSU’s defense, and their offense may never get off the field. As a result, I like the over in this game for sure, and I’m taking Mississippi State to cover.

Mississippi State has been the most inconsistent team in the SEC. One week they show up and dominate the next week they fall flat on their face. It’s no secret that Mississippi State has a dominate defense. They have made opposing offenses struggle to sleep at night trying to prepare against them. Ole Miss has a great offense however and could make this a challenge for the Bulldogs.

The only problem with Ole Miss is that while their offense is superiorly great, their defense is the worst in the SEC. Remember this is a team that gave up over 40 points to Southern Illinois! Plus opposing defenses have been able to score against the Rebels as well. As inconsistent Nick Fitzgerald has been with this Mississippi State offense, they won’t have any trouble scoring against the Rebels. Ole Miss will be able to put up points, but not enough to keep up with Mississippi State.
