No.4 – Who will be the Vols next OC?

Are you as tired as I am of coaching searches for Tennessee teams? It seems like everyone ends worst than the last, at least on the football side of things.

More from All for Tennessee

Maybe hiring Jeremy Pruitt was the right call for the Vols. Maybe he will be the one to rekindle the dominance Tennessee once showed to the college football world. But, to do that doesn’t he need an offensive coordinator that can score points?

You can have one of the best defensives in the nation to win but the game is changing, and the offense has to be able to score points. Take Alabama for example; they ranked tenth according to NCAA.org in total defense. They only surrendered 25 touchdowns in 14 games by yielding just 295.4 yards per game.

Those are impressive numbers but what made Alabama so potent this season is their offense. The Tide scored over 50 points in eight different games and honestly could have easily scored 80-100 if they didn’t take their foot off the gas.

So, can Tennessee reach that same level? Absolutely they could, the Vols have the resources to be the best team in the nation. They just need the right fit at OC. I personally still believe Jim Chaney, offensive coordinator for Georiga, has a chance to come back to Knoxville.

Fellow editor, Caleb Calhoun, wrote about five remaining potential hires and you can check that article out here.
