More from All for Tennessee

All the things about offensive line and specifically offensive tackle for Tennessee football that led us to make Wanya Morris a favorite to contribute early for the Vols this year also apply to Darnell Wright. After all, Wright was the top recruit in this class.

A five-star offensive tackle who committed on National Signing Day, you could almost say that the 6’6″ 300 pound prospect is already a favorite to start. Don’t be surprised if Jeremy Pruitt and Jim Chaney immediately throw Wright in at blindside tackle if Trey Smith isn’t back.

Marcus Tatum and Nathan Niehaus can be serviceable there, and Jerome Carvin has potential. But Niehaus is more of a guard, and Tatum shouldn’t be a blindside tackle. Carvin also would do better as a guard.

As a result, there is a huge opening for blindside tackle, and the best recruit in the Vols’ 2019 class just happens to be the perfect fit to play that position. So Wright is obviously going to be the top player on this list among all the 2019 recruits who would be able to contribute early. He was Pruitt’s top target for a while.

Wright’s commitment put Tennessee football in amazing shape to be able to have some success this year and beyond. They have immediate help at offensive line, and that could be the biggest thing to turn them around after a 5-7 season in which they lost six games by 25 points or more. Extra help at tackle could mean everything for the Vols.
