The Tennessee Lady Vols will visit the Texas A&M Aggies Thursday night. Here is our preview for the women’s basketball Volunteers.

After a huge upset win at the Missouri Tigers on Sunday to get them back to .500 in the SEC at 6-6 and to 17-8 overall, the Tennessee Lady Vols have another major opportunity Thursday. With four games left to make an NCAA Tournament, Holly Warlick’s team travels to College Station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies.

At 19-6 and 8-4 in the SEC, Texas A&M is ranked No. 21 in the nation. However, they have lost two of their last three games, by five at Mizzou and by 28 at home against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. UT looked just as bad against MSU, but it was on the road without Evina Westbrook. By beating Missouri, it’s safe to say they’ve looked better in recent weeks than A&M.

However, this is a road game and one that will test them heavily. If they can pull off this victory, they’ll be all but a lock for the NCAA Tournament barring any major upsets at the end of the season. Here is all the information you need for Thursday night’s game.

After Texas A&M, the Tennessee Lady Vols will play host to the No. 13 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. After that, they host the Vanderbilt Commodores before finishing the season on the road against the Ole Miss Rebels. Those final two teams both have losing records and are outside of the top 100 of the RPI.

As a result, if UT could somehow find a way to pull off an upset in this game, a first round bye in the SEC Tournament all of a sudden looks very feasible, which is insane given their 1-5 start in the league. After all, they’ll face one more ranked team at home after that and two easy games, so the prospect of winning their last four to finish 21-8 and 10-6 in the SEC isn’t completely crazy.

Should that happen, they would have the head to head advantages over the LSU Tigers and Auburn Tigers, both of whom have six losses. The Georgia Bulldogs are bound to lose one more conference game. After that, they only need Texas A&M and Mizzou to each lose a conference game, all of which is plausible.

Simply put, this is all of a sudden a huge game in College Station. It’s potentially for a top four spot in that tournament, and the Tennessee Lady Vols winning puts them in that conversation. That will make for an amazing three-game stretch for numerous teams to close out the season. But they’ve got to win this one first.
