Tennessee basketball recruiting: 4-star 2020 forward Corey Walker Jr. commits to Vols
Tennessee basketball scored more success a day after its huge win over the Kentucky Wildcats. Four-star 2020 forward Corey Walker Jr. chose the Volunteers.
Rick Barnes already has a solid recruiting class this upcoming year led by five-star Josiah James. But after scoring a dominant win over the Kentucky Wildcats, he and Tennessee basketball got another huge pickup on Sunday afternoon for the next year.
Corey Walker Jr., a four-star forward on Rivals, committed to the Vols for 2020. Evan Daniels of 247 Sports was the first to break the news of the commitment. On 247, he is actually listed as a five-star recruit.
Standing at 6’7″ 205 pounds, Walker is a wing player who is ranked in the top 30 nationally, making him just short of a five-star recruit, and a top 10 player at his position. He was among a group of elite recruits on hand for the Vols’ 71-52 win over the Wildcats.
Versatility is Walker’s biggest selling point. At the college level, he’ll be able to play four positions on the floor. Center is the only position he can’t play. But his size and athleticism make him a perfect fit for college ball. Here is a look at some of his highlights.

As you can see, Walker has great post moves and a solid spin move under the basket. He also has very good handles. It is true that he’s not as quick as one may like, but thing of a player like Greivis Vasquez of the Maryland Terrapins, who was the 2010 ACC Player of the Year. A nice shooting touch, versatility and solid handles are all great assets.
Of course, depending on what else Rick Barnes does on the recruiting trail, there’s a chance that UT has a John Calipari-level recruiting class for 2020. They have lots of elite talent interested in them, and with the guys they should have returning in 2020, that’s another year in which the team should be special.
Right now, though, nobody cares about that. Tennessee basketball is in the midst of a historic season with big goals this year, and that’s where everybody is focused. But it’s good for Vol Nation that Barnes has set up the program’s future incredibly well.
