Quavaris Crouch was the best player in the nation last year. The four-star athlete’s stock only dropped due to an injury. Tennessee football stole a rare, elite talent as a result, and Jeremy Pruitt may have hit the lottery.

Considering that fact, you would think he comes into the spring with a huge opportunity. If nothing else, it gives Crouch time to catch back up and get into football shape again. He’s entering college ball with a lot to prove.
Well, we do have him in the top half of our list. And that’s due to his raw talent along with what he has the chance to prove. Add in the fact that as an athlete he can play linebacker and running back, and there’s a lot that he has to gain as an early enrollee. He won’t have to waste time figuring out his position or getting healthy in the fall.
However, despite everything we said, Crouch is coming in at two positions that are already pretty deep. We already mentioned the running back situation with Eric Gray. They would both be behind Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan and maybe even Jeremy Banks.
At inside linebacker, Daniel Bituli is clearly safe in one starting role. Senior Darrin Kirkland Jr. is likely to be in good shape on the other side as well, though, and guys like Will Ignont, Shanon Reid and JJ Peterson are still there. So Crouch is simply joining two loaded positions, meaning the spring is only about him getting back into football shape and finding his right position so he can develop.
