No.3 – Gonzaga Bulldogs

December 9, 2018 – Phoenix, Arizona

Coming in at number three on our rankings is the showdown that was in Phoenix, Arizona against the then ranked No.1 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Although it was just December, it felt like it was a Final Four type of game.

More from All for Tennessee

It was supposed to be a “neutral” site game which by definition I suppose it was. And, I’ve never been great with geography, but Phoenix doesn’t appear to be the central location of both schools.

But, that didn’t matter to Tennessee. The Vols came out with a chip on their shoulder, and that’s usually when they played the best.

Remember this game was back and forth for 40 minutes. Grant Williams fouled out with 2:30 left in the game, and I like everyone else thought the game was over. After all, the Vols just lost their best player, and they were down two points.

But, Admiral Schofield wouldn’t let the Vols lose, he stole the show. After Williams fouled out, Schofield scored the final eight points of the game to give Tennessee the three-point win. Without Schofield’s back-to-back three-point shots within a minute of game time, the Vols lose. I suppose his 30-point game where he went 6-for-10 from the three-point line deserves mention as well, right?
