Tennessee football recruiting: Vols in top 5 for 2019 5-star OL
Tennessee football five-star offensive line prospect Justin Rogers placed the Volunteers in his top five. He will announce his decision May 20.
On Wednesday afternoon, Tennessee football cracked the top two for a four-star offensive lineman who will be announcing his decision Monday, May 13. Later that evening, the Vols got more news surrounding another elite lineman.
Rather than being a four-star from Georgia like the first one, this one is a five-star from Michigan. But in similar fashion, the Vols made the cut for his top schools, and he also announced the date in which he would be committing.
Justin Rogers listed Tennessee football in his top five on Twitter Wednesday evening. He also announced he would be making his college decision on Monday, May 20. The Vols were in the top five along with his home-state school, the Michigan Wolverines, and four other SEC schools: the LSU Tigers, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Kentucky Wildcats.
A five-star offensive guard on Rivals, Rogers is ranked a top 10 players nationally and considered the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan and the No. 1 player at his position. He hails from Oak Park High School, just outside of Detroit.
At 6’4″ 314 pounds, there’s no doubt that Rogers would be a huge pickup for the Vols. Them making it this far also shows how committed Jeremy Pruitt, Will Friend and Jim Chaney are to shoring up their line after having a historically great class this past year.

That’s why it’s a huge deal for the Vols top be in the top 5 for Rogers and the top 2 for Tate Ratledge, who was the Georgia lineman they are competing with. Securing both commitments would be like hitting the lottery.
The great news for Tennessee football, however, is they don’t seem to be in contention with the schools you might think to get Rogers. Of the schools in his top five, Rivals forecast has the Vols competing specifically with Kentucky and Georgia. The 247Sports Crystal Ball has UT in second.
With the Ohio State Buckeyes being eliminated from his top 5, the Vols lost one major competitor to worry about, which is even greater news for them. Considering the fact that they beat Kentucky last year and have Georgia’s offensive coordinator from last year, they are in great position to lure Rogers away.
Whether or not that happens will be revealed on his decision date. By Monday, May 20, Tennessee football could be the splash school of the month when it comes to recruiting. But even if it isn’t Jeremy Pruitt is already demonstrating he is a force on the trail by just keeping the Vols in contention with these guys.
