Not one transfer a greater chance of playing immediately for Tennessee football than Savion Williams. Once again, we’re at the defensive tackle spot, and once again, we have moved to a highly sought-after guy there.

Another junior college transfer, Williams was a four-star recruit. At 6’4″ 315 pounds, he’s already the perfect size to come in and immediately fill a void left at defensive tackle. Again, Emmit Gooden is the only one doing so now. There needs to be more sure help up front quickly.
Somebody else has to help replace the production of Kyle Phillips, Alexis Johnson and Shy Tuttle, and Williams can do that. He could start alongside Gooden in the middle with Matthew Butler playing on the outside. In fact, Williams is probably the favorite right now to lock off that other starting spot given the certainty of his eligibility.
Simply put, when Williams arrives in the summer, he will be expected to immediately be ready for the rotation. After all, he is the only elite recruit on the defensive line who is an experienced transfer and eligible to play this year. There’s just no way around the fact that he would be an immediate boost for the line, and he’s a more sure bet than Aubrey Solomon.
Of course, this all remains projection. But Tennessee football needs immediate help at defensive line, and Savion Williams is projected to bring that. More than even Solomon, he’ll be ready to go in the Fall, and that’s enough for us to have him No. 1 on our list.
