Tennessee football: Vols 2020 JuCo DB commit Art Green upgraded to 4-star
Tennessee football recruiting got a commitment from Art Green Monday. On Tuesday, the Volunteers junior college defensive back was upgraded to a four-star.
On Monday, news of Art Green’s commitment to Tennessee football was really just about the Vols adding a seventh player to their 2020 recruiting class. However, just a day later, Green has become a much bigger deal for Rocky Top.
After his commitment, Green was reclassified to a four-star on 247Sports and Rivals, and he received a major ratings boost as a junior college transfer. 247Sports now has Green as the No. 2 JuCo player nationally and the No. 1 defensive back.
This is a huge deal. Jeremy Pruitt clearly saw something in the guy that services weren’t yet seeing. After all, when he committed on Monday, he wasn’t even rated by Rivals or 247Sports. Now he’s a four-star.
Coming from Chesterfield, Mo., Green initially committed to play for the Arkansas State Red Wolves as a two-star wide receiver in 2018. He then transferred to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas and converted to cornerback.

Billy Williford predicted on our site Monday that Green was likely to get a high rating when the services finally analyzed him. Well, a day later, he was proven right with this massive bump for the 6’2″ 201-pound prospect.
With his commitment, Green is Tennessee football’s third four-star along with defensive tackle Dominic Bailey and quarterback Harrison Bailey. They also have two three-stars in running back Ebony Jackson and athlete Jimmy Calloway, and they have a two-star offensive lineman in Will Albright.
Green is also the second junior college player to commit along with defensive end Jordan Davis, who comes out of Copiah-Lincoln C.C. in Wesson, Miss. and is originally from Memphis. Davis is not yet rated on Rivals, but he does have a four-star rating on 247Sports, so when he does fully get rated, he could spike the Vols’ class again.
Pruitt appears to be getting in early on some junior college talent, which it seemed he would do less of as he built up Tennessee football. However, the departure of Nigel Warrior in the secondary and continued questions at defensive line make those two good positions to go for such help. Green’s commitment was already a big deal on Rocky Top. Tuesday made it bigger.
