NBA Draft: Are Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield a packaged deal?
Could Tennessee Vols Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield reunite in the NBA Draft? These Volunteers may stay together when they reach the pros.
If you watched Tennessee basketball at all this past year, you could see how Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield fed off each other. Known as Peanut Butter and Jelly, they were a perfect 3-4 combination. Well, scouts now may be noticing that for the NBA Draft.
A couple of developments happened recently that suggest this duo may stick together in the pros. For starters, they shared a workout with one team. Then a mock NBA Draft came out projecting them to both be drafted by another team.
The workout was with the Golden State Warriors, according to Wes Rucker of GoVols247. Given the fact that somebody is likely to leave that team next year, a little bit of depth could definitely help. If GSW took both of them, they would have a collection of players to develop in the future.
Golden State has already proven it can maximize the talents of those who can shoot from the outside or have enough versatility as big men to stretch the floor. Schofield can shoot from the outside, and Williams has that versatility, although he needs to work on it.
Still, alongside that news came a mock draft that had them going elsewhere. Draftsite.com projected them going to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Draft. They had Williams being taken as the No. 22 pick and Schofield going in the second round as the No. 52 pick.
Again, this would be a great fit. With experience in the college game himself, Brad Stevens has proven that he can go unconventional with his picks and win. He values production over raw potential, and Williams and Schofield have both clearly demonstrated production.

So between these two teams, could there be signs that NBA scouts are taking a look at what Williams and Schofield did and determining that they belong together? It’s clear the Vols were at their best when the two fed off each other.
The most notable instances were their biggest wins of this past season, topping the Kentucky Wildcats in the SEC Tournament and the Gonzaga Bulldogs in December when they were ranked No. 1. In the Kentucky win, Schofield had 21 points and 5 assists while shooting 4-of-8 from three. Williams had 20 points and 7 rebounds. Both hit three-pointers in the final three minutes.
Meanwhile, against Gonzaga, Schofield was the star with 30 points while going 6-of-10 from three. But he would not have been able to do what he did had it not been for Williams doing work under the basket, still putting up 16 points and snagging 12 rebounds along with 7 assists.
Yes, Williams fouled out late in that game, but he still did his part. And he showed just how elite of a combination he and Schofield can be. It seems the pros have taken notice of that as well. That might be their ticket to having successful careers. It could also dictate where they land in the 2019 NBA Draft in a month.
