1. Championship experience

With the three new coaches, Tennessee football adds a lot more championship experience. Jeremy Pruitt himself already had plenty of that, winning three as a defensive backs coach with the Alabama Crimson Tide and two more as a defensive coordinator, one with Alabama and the other with the Florida State Seminoles.

But Derrick Ansley also brings national title experience in, helping Pruitt to two of those Alabama titles, one as a grad assistant and the other as a defensive backs coach. Ansley also helped win two SEC Championships.

Jim Chaney has won multiple national titles at different schools. He helped the Western Michigan Broncos to the MAC Championship as an offensive line coach in 1988, and then he helped the Wyoming Cowboys to the WAC Championships in 1993 as a grad assistant.

Three years later, Chaney helped Wyoming win the WAC Pacific Division Title as the offensive line coach again. Then, as the offensive coordinator with the Purdue Boilermakers, he helped capture a share of the Big Ten title in 2000.

We also know what Chaney has done the past two years with the Georgia Bulldogs, helping them win back to back SEC East championships and the 2017 SEC Championship. Simply put, he has experience winning.

Tee Martin, meanwhile, helped win a Pac 12 championship with the USC Trojans. And he helped them make it to two New Year’s Six Bowl games, so he has some winning experience. Oh, and Martin joins Chris Weinke now as two coaches who are former national championship winning quarterbacks in college ball.

Simply put, Tennessee football now has a lot more championship experience with its coaches. And that means a great deal for a program trying to restore itself to prominence. These guys together can help establish a culture of winning, and that is the biggest plus this revamped staff brings to the table.
