A five-star offensive tackle, Wright comes in as the highest rated player in this recruiting class. He is actually the Vols’ highest-rated recruit since 2015, and he highlights a historically great offensive line recruiting class.
On top of that, the 6’6″ 300-pound prospect is a true offensive tackle, and he has a wide open lane to start there. After all, Drew Richmond has transferred. Chance Hall was forced to retire. Trey Smith is still dealing with his healthy issues.
And although his situation more impacts the interior line, all injuries are factors, and center Brandon Kennedy is coming off a season-ending injury. So it’s not like he is certain to be fully good to go when the season starts.
Amidst all of this, enter Wright. Heck, given Wanya Morris’s spring, you could see two freshmen starting at tackle this year. Marcus Tatum is still a guy in the mix as a veteran, but Wright’s potential talent is something we can’t ignore.
Jeremy Pruitt wanted immediate help at offensive line. Darnell Wright provides that and then some for Tennessee football, and with all the injury issues, he is in great position to start this year. In fact, we’ve already projected that, which is why he is the top summer enrollee on this list.
