Tennessee football recruiting made the cut for a California prospect. Four-star outside linebacker Kourt Williams has the Volunteers in his top five.

Tennessee football has been on a roll recruiting in recent weeks, and that’s been the case for the 2020 and the 2021 classes. On Friday, the Vols got one step closer to potentially landing another major 2020 prospect, this time out on the West Coast.

Kourt Williams, an outside linebacker out of St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif., trimmed his list to five schools on Friday, and the Vols were still in it. A top 100 player, Williams is listed as a four-star on Rivals.

In addition to Tennessee football, Williams had the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Oklahoma Sooners, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Texas A&M Aggies in his list. He announced his final five schools on Twitter.

At 6’0″ 215 pounds, Williams is ranked right at No. 100 nationally on Rivals. He is the No. 10 ranked player at his position and the No. 13 ranked player in the state of California, so he is clearly a highly touted prospect.

At the moment, the Rivals FanFutureCast has Ohio State as the favorite to land him by a plurality of 49 percent. Meanwhile, the generic Rivals FutureCast has Ohio State as the only school predicted to land him.

The same holds true with the 247Sports Crystal Ball, where 71 percent of the predictions have him going to Ohio State. However, another 29 percent had him going to the UCLA Bruins there, so that is obviously wrong since they didn’t make the cut.

One good bit of news for Jeremy Pruitt is he has already had success luring linebackers from California after getting Henry To’oto’o to commit in the Vols’ 2019 recruiting class. However, To’oto’o comes from the Bay Area and hasn’t played a snap yet. Williams, meanwhile, comes from outside of Los Angeles.

Throughout the month of June, Tennessee football has been on a roll in getting top talent. They now have 11 total commitments and the No. 25 ranked recruiting class. Landing Williams would build on that in a huge way, so it would be incredible for Vol Nation to land him. But it looks like they do have an uphill climb to lure him to Rocky Top, even after making this cut.
