Final Take

With a redshirt freshman and true freshman this year backing up a redshirt junior, Tennessee football was already in solid shape at quarterback. If just these three guys stayed on the roster, they’d be fine next year as well.

More from All for Tennessee

After all, the Vols have two clear options in JT Shrout and Brian Maurer to compete to replace Jarrett Guarantano. And the idea going into a season with a new quarterback is you always at least have two options.

However, with the addition of Harrison Bailey, a top-notch pro-style quarterback for 2020, the Vols are set for when Guarantano leaves, whether it be 2020 or 2021, regardless of what else they get. If they just hold their current commitments, they will have no trouble with their future at the position.

Jeremy Pruitt has done a heck of a job stocking up the roster, and Bailey’s commitment means that he, Jim Chaney and Chris Weinke have three good options already for the future. So when the dead period ends, he has nothing to worry about if he doesn’t add another guy.

Sure, it doesn’t hurt to still try, but it’s no big deal if nobody commits. Pruitt has his guys at signal-caller for the foreseeable future, and he has landed some pretty impressive prospects there as well given the school’s recent history.

Prediction

Tennessee football isn’t going to land any new quarterbacks. Again, they are too loaded as it is, so it’s hard to see anybody wanting to try to head to Rocky Top to compete for playing time that will be almost impossible to earn.

The Vols need to focus on so many other areas of recruiting right now that they won’t waste time selling the program to another quarterback either. Lack of effort selling and the limited prospects of playing time will keep others away. So this position, barring any decommitments, is set for the 2020 recruiting class.
