Tennessee football received a mention from Florida Atlantic Owls head coach Lane Kiffin, who coached the Volunteers in 2009, on Twitter Sunday.
No matter where he goes, Lane Kiffin can’t get Tennessee football out of his head. Hey, that’s the only reason he keeps trolling the Vols, isn’t it? He’s been doing that ever since his days as head coach of the USC Trojans and offensive coordinator of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Over the weekend, Kiffin did it again. The Florida Atlantic Owls head coach tweeted out videos of his players practicing to different songs, something that just seemed like a move to promote what was happening in his program.
However, Kiffin couldn’t resist referencing places he had been before. He played Sweet Home Alabama at one point and then played Rocky Top, sending a shoutout to the Vols and the Tide on Twitter when he did it.
Following that, Kiffin tweeted more videos and other tweets related to UT. From joking about the disappointment at fan day to retweeting other fans, he was just having a lot of trouble getting the Vols out of his head for some reason.
On their third head coach since Kiffin’s abrupt departure after the end of the 2009 season, Tennessee football has more than moved on at this point. The Vols’ athletic director is the guy Kiffin replaced, after all, and he’s the one who hired UT’s current head coach.

Sure, it’s biased to the moment, but fans are much happier with Phillip Fulmer and Jeremy Pruitt at the helm than they would be with Mike Hamilton and Kiffin there. So the only person who can’t get the Vols out of his head is, well, Kiffin himself.
Maybe he’s desperate for attention. He did go 5-7, after all, in 2018 without Kendal Briles there as offensive coordinator. Does he fear he’s losing his touch? Is there a need for him to keep his name out in the open after being at such big-name schools like Tennessee, USC and Alabama? There could be.
Whatever the case, Kiffin clearly thinks about Tennessee football more than anybody affiliated with Tennessee football thinks about him. That has continued to prove itself for years, and it did so again over the weekend.
