1. At Alabama Crimson Tide

Game Seven

Saturday, Oct. 19; Bryant-Denny Stadium; Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Florida Gators are close to this for 2019, but the Alabama Crimson Tide are the team you can certainly write off as a loss for Tennessee football this year. Should that really be a surprise to anybody at this point?

More from Vols Football

Alabama has a 12-game winning streak over the Vols and haven’t lost with Nick Saban as head coach. Saban himself is 14-1 against UT. Meanwhile, the Tide are a top five team and will be playing this game at home.

In fact, one bit of good news for Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols is they can write this game off as a loss and not have to waste a home game on it. It’s a loss anyway, so being on the road gives them a chance to face a more beatable team at home.

With Florida and Georgia, it’s an alternating thing anyway. So they have to waste one home game either way. But Alabama being at home would mean they waste two home games. Simply put, it’s a huge plus for the Vols that they are on the road and a big reason they have a more clear path to a winning record this year.

But back to this game, let’s be clear. Alabama is going to dominate. Not only is Alabama 12-0 against UT under Saban, and not only is Saban 14-1 against UT, but Saban is also undefeated against his assistants. Jeremy Pruitt isn’t about to break that streak before Jimbo Fisher, Kirby Smart or even Will Muschamp.

So yes, this is Tennessee football’s most difficult game on the year. Beyond being a sure loss, it’s the one that they have a 0 percent chance of winning. The game will likely be as ugly as the Vols’ win over the Chattanooga Mocs. There’s no surprise that we have it at No. 1.
