Jarrett Guarantano may be the quarterback throwing to all the stars. Daniel Bituli is basically the quarterback of the defense. But there is no greater game-changing weapons for Tennessee football this year than Ty Chandler.

More from Vols Football

Despite a horrendous offensive line last year, particularly on the interior, Chandler still ran for 630 yards and averaged five and a half yards a carry. He also had seven total touchdowns, becoming the first running back in school history to score a receiving touchdown in three straight games. And don’t forget he has a kickoff return touchdown in his career.

Simply put, Chandler is an insanely elite playmaker, and he can be effective as a runner or a passer. Tyson Helton grossly underused him last year. Despite all the weapons in the passing game this year, Jim Chaney will still want to have the 5’11” 201-pound junior lead everybody in touches.

One thing that could hold Chandler back is Jermey Pruitt’s desire to run three to four running backs in a system. And listed behind Chandler this year are Tim Jordan, a fundamental back, and Eric Gray, another freshman phenom who is likely the future Chandler. However, even with that rule, he should make sure Chandler gets 15 touches a game this year.

In the offseason, Chandler reportedly ran a 4.3 40-time. We already have seen how great he is with the ball in his hands. So Tennessee football should be using him as much as possible, and it makes him the biggest impact player on the Vols. His potential this year is through the roof.
