Very little respect is being awarded to Tennessee football against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Volunteers opened more than three-touchdown underdogs.

Early odds are in for Tennessee football against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. And to nobody’s surprise, there is very little respect for Rocky Top. In fact, for a program under a second-year head coach, it’s downright embarrassing.

UT opened as a 22-point underdog to UGA, according to Vegas Insider betting odds. Some lines had Georgia as high as a 24-point favorite. So it’s pretty clear that the respect for Rocky Top is extremely low heading into this one.

However, it makes sense. Tennessee football lost to Georgia by 26 the last time the two teams met. The last time they met in Knoxville, two years ago, the Vols lost 41-0. And the way they both look this year makes it more obvious for a huge line.

More from Vols Football

Rocky Top is 1-3 and unranked with no wins over an FBS school under second-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt and UGA is 4-0 and in the top three under fourth-year head coach Kirby Smart. The Vols’ last outing was a 34-3 loss at the Florida Gators, and Georgia’s last outing was a 23-17 win over a top 10 program, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

If anything is going to favor UT, it will be Jim Chaney’s familiarity with the Dawgs since he was the program’s offensive coordinator the past three years. However, UGA’s offense appears to have not missed a beat without Chaney.

As a result, it doesn’t appear to be something that will make too much of an impact. What’s clear is that Tennessee football is in a completely different place from Georgia right now, and that’s reflective in this huge line.

Could the Vols at least cover in this one? They aren’t just 0-3 against FBS schools this year, but they are also 0-3 against the spread in those games. So expectations are understandably extremely low for this program heading into the game. And it’s why Georgia is already a heavy favorite in Knoxville.
