Coming off its best win of the year, Tennessee football has to visit Alabama Saturday night. Here is our preview for the UT Volunteers and Crimson Tide.

Well this is a perfect way to get things going. Fresh off their win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Tennessee football hits another major roadblock while trying to get on a roll. That roadblock is a game in Tuscaloosa against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

This Alabama every year thing is starting to get brutal for the Vols. But hey, you have to protect the rivalry. Anyway, Jeremy Pruitt’s team is headed there with a 2-4 record and 1-2 SEC record, desperately trying to find a path to a bowl game.

Because of their horrible start, losing at home to the Georgia State Panthers and the BYU Cougars, there is little room for error. However, pulling out the upset of all upsets today would certainly put them back at par.

Alabama, meanwhile, heads into this game ranked No. 1 in the nation at 6-0. They just beat the Texas A&M Aggies 47-28. Although the offense is humming with Tua Tagovailoa even more than it did last year, the defense is more average than any Saban defense ever has been. It has given up 23, 27 and 28 points in its three SEC games. Can Tennessee football score as well?

If they do, one advantage they have defensively is the fact that leading Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith is suspended for this game. But one disadvantage they have is the fact that quarterback Brian Maurer is their best chance to put up points with his mobility, but he’s been hurt all week after a head injury against Mississippi State.

The biggest question is if any of this matters. After all, Alabama is on such a different level than the Vols talent-wise, and we know about how Saban owns his assistants. So does UT have any chance with Pruitt leading the way? Here is all the information you need for today’s game.

If, as is expected, Tennessee football loses today, they fall to 2-5. But the schedule gets significantly easier after that, and their path to a bowl includes beating the UAB Blazers and Vanderbilt Commodores at home and then somehow winning two of three at home against the South Carolina Gamecocks and on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats and Missouri Tigers.

Alabama, meanwhile, gets to face the Arkansas Razorbacks after this week. So they get what should be two easy games and then an open date before their key matchup of the year, a November showdown against the LSU Tigers.

With a 12-game winning streak in the series, the Tide likely don’t view this as much of a rivalry anymore. And the Vols have a long way to go to make this competitive again. They could start with a good showing in the game Saturday, however possible that is.
