With the transfer of Evina Westbrook, the Tennessee Lady Vols clearly have a major opening at guard right now. And Zaay Green is the only returning player who is able to fill that void in Kellie Harper’s first season.

But they need another combo guard who can score. We already mentioned Jessie Rennie’s specific skill. Rennia Davis will have to play more in the post with Mimi Collins transferring. That leaves things up to Jazmine Massengill and Jordan Horston. The prized recruit of the 2019 class, Horston is going to be the player Harper needs to step up immediately.

A five-star who is listed at 6’2″, Horston was the No. 2 ranked player nationally for 2019 and the No. 1 ranked player at her position. She is an elite talent and was always recruited for the purposes of immediately making an impact on the court.

The transfer of Westbrook now only makes that more crucial. Green, Massengill and even Rae Burrell all have potential in the backcourt. But Burrell is more of a wing player, and Massengill is meant to be a true point guard. Horston could step in and with Green make up an elite scoring punch that this team needs.

To be fair, this is largely based on her hype. The Tennessee Lady Vols are better off when it comes to elite returning guards than forwards. But they need as many as possible to offset Westbrook’s departure, and there’s a very good chance Horston immediately becomes the go-to player. That’s why she’s No. 1 on this list.
