Eastern New Mexico visits Tennessee basketball and head coach Rick Barnes in an exhibition game Wednesday. Here is our Volunteers and Greyhounds preview.

With a new look, Tennessee basketball takes the court Wednesday night for an exhibition matchup against the Eastern New Mexico (ENMU) Greyhounds in Knoxville. Rick Barnes’s fifth team takes the court amidst a lot of questions.

The Vols lost four starters from last year in Grant Williams, Kyle Alexander, Admiral Schofield and Jordan Bone. That core group of guys included their three leading scorers, three leading rebounders and two leading assists men.

Coming off a 31-6 season in which they spent nearly a month at No. 1 and lost a close game in the Sweet Sixteen, they now get to provide a preview of how they’ll be looking this season. Here is all the information you need for tonight’s game.

Combo guard Lamonte Turner and two-guard Jordan Bowden, both of whom averaged double-figures as well last year, are the only two proven returners for Tennessee basketball. Meanwhile, the other big name they have added is five-star combo guard Josiah-Jordan James. But as a fringe top 25 team, there are questions everywhere else.

That’s especially true in the post game, which lost everything in Williams, Alexander and Schofield. Yves Pons will be looking to fill that void at the four and sometimes on the wing, but center is a question with Arizona State Sun Devils transfer and seven-footer Uros Plavsic waiting on his eligibility waiver from the NCAA as this game tips off, meaning he can’t go.

Returning contributors like John Fulkerson and Jalen Johnson are also expected to take leaps, and Zach Kent brings excitement at center with his return from a season-ending injury. Meanwhile, freshman guard Davonte Gaines and forwards Drew Pember and Olivier Nkamhoua are all looking to make an early impact as well.

UT enters the season three spots outside of the top 25 in the AP Poll and right at No. 25 in the Coaches’ Poll. But they will have plenty of chances early on to move up the rankings with lots of Power Five and top 25 opponents before the season even starts.

Eastern New Mexico is a Division II program led by Tres Segler, who is entering his fourth year with the program and was a Barnes student assistant with the Texas Longhorns from 2003 to 2009. However, he has suffered three straight losing seasons and is coming off a 13-14 year. So it’s questionable as to how much of a test they will provide Tennessee basketball.
