But the need for help at wide receiver brings in Malachi Wideman. UT lost both starting wideouts in Marquez Callaway and Jauan Jennings. They have Josh Palmer Brandon Johnson coming back, along with Ramel Keyton emerging. But they need more help.
Sure, Holiday could help. So could four-stars Jalin Hyatt and Jimmy Calloway along with three-star athlete Dee Beckwith. Then there are the transfers, Velus Jones Jr. from the USC Trojans, who will be eligible, and Miles Jones from the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who may be eligible.
Still, Wideman is the potential freshman who could immediately step in. A four-star on Rivals who flipped his commitment to the Vols from the Florida State Seminoles on National Signing Day, he has the exact profile needed for immediate help at wideout. This guy is 6’5″ 190 pounds, and he has an insane vertical and insane athleticism.
As a result, there’s a very good chance Wideman immediately works his way into the rotation, even with Palmer, Keyton, Johnson and Jones all expected to make an impact. Jim Chaney loves big receivers like Wideman, and he could become one of those insane playmakers with his size. So watch out for what he does early on.
