Tyler Baron was a crucial get for the Vols back in December because of the fact that Jay Hardy committed to the Auburn Tigers. With the loss of Darrell Taylor, Jeremy Pruitt needs immediate help at edge rusher, and that involves finding a guy who can consistently hurry the quarterback and frustrate opposing offenses.
The four-star on Rivals who comes out of Knoxville Catholic High School could provide that immediately at 6’4″ 250 pounds. Baron is a potential star, and there’s a chance he enters the rotation much earlier than people expect him to.
Sure, the Vols still have Deandre Johnson, Jordan Allen and Kivon Bennett, but none of those guys have stood out consistently yet. As a result, there is certainly an opening for a second starting outside linebacker spot, and everybody should pay attention to the possibility that Baron fills that role next year.
As a Knoxville guy, fans would love to see Baron step in and make an early impact. Tennessee football could gain a lot of momentum from that. And given the needs at outside linebacker, Baron just might do that, which is why he tops this list.
