Tennessee football: Ranking all Vols staff changes during 2020 offseason
2. Promoting Joe Osovet to tight ends coach

Pruitt then struck gold in hiring the guy to replace Niedermeyer. Joe Osovet was an off-field coach for Rocky Top the past two years, and he became the Director of Program Development this past year. Now, Pruitt was was finally able to do what he planned to do when he hired Osovet two years ago, and that was make him an on-field coach.
Osovet is an analytics genius who invented the RPO, which he called manipulation, way back in 2001. He has spent two decades in the junior college ranks, and he spent five as a junior college head coach, where he put up numerous records.
Now, the guy is on the field working with the offense, which is a huge plus for UT. Even if he is only coaching the tight ends right now, everybody should be thrilled with him being in that role. In addition to his knowledge, Osovet helps bring a major recruiting advantage into the junior college ranks and the state of New York, similar to Jimmy Brumbaugh.
Simply put, this guy is a positive all the way around. He’s likely an upgrade over Niedermeyer when it comes to an on-field offensive role, and he expands the recruiting horizon for Pruitt. So there were no negatives here.
